Character Ca De Bestiar

If you are an experienced dog owner and are looking for a new, loyal but also self-confident companion, your choice should fall on the Ca de Bestiar. This dog impresses with its robust and courageous appearance. He is a harmoniously proportioned, muscular dog weighing up to 40 kg.
You should have a spacious property as the Ca de Bestiar has a single purpose; to protect the yard and herd. He is a herding and cattle dog and should have the opportunity to fulfill this task.

It should be emphasized that this handsome German Shepherd is definitely not for beginners.
He is often not very affectionate towards his conspecifics and strangers. Therefore, you should ideally keep him alone, without other dogs. He loves and protects children. In order to have a lot of fun with him, you have to offer him enough exercise and keep him busy, as he absolutely needs to balance his strong temperament.

Diet Ca De Bestiar

When feeding your Ca de Bestiar, you should make sure that it is tailored to its body size and weight. In particular, it should contain nutrients that serve to protect the joints. Sufficient proteins are also particularly important for his stressed musculoskeletal system.
In general, he should only be fed dog-friendly food and no table scraps. Whether you choose wet and/or dry food is not particularly important.

After eating, you should always make sure that your dog is not raging or jumping around wildly. He should rest for a while to allow the food to digest properly.

Its deep black, short-haired coat does not require any special care. You should brush him occasionally, paying attention to his dense undercoat.
With the rarer long-haired variant, however, you should take special care to ensure that the hair, which is up to 7 cm long, does not become matted. Despite its dense, black fur, the Ca de Bastiar has adapted well to the climate of the Balearic Islands and can therefore withstand temperatures of up to 40 C° very well.

Ca de Bastiar literally means cattle dog. His homeland is the Ballearic Islands, especially the island of Mallorca. With its exact origin you will quickly notice that it cannot be clearly determined in the case of the Ca de Bestiar. Unfortunately, it is still not possible to determine exactly where it came from. He appears to be descended from a cross between domestic and imported dogs.

Due to its size, it was used as a herding dog for cattle herds. He has also always served as a court and guard dog. Controlled breeding of this breed began in 1970, as it was threatened with extinction shortly after the Second World War. In 1982 it was officially recognized by the FCI as a separate breed.

Ca De Bestiar Accessories

If you want to offer your new Mallorcan shepherd dog the best possible home, the best you can do is live on a large farm where it has plenty of space and exercise. If possible, he should even have a herd available to look after.
But even without these requirements, you can create a calm and balanced dog with long walks and sufficient play units.
