Character Bolonka Zwetna

Bolonkas are very open-minded and always happy to be there. They enjoy being with their reference person and also cuddle extensively with them. They find it difficult to be alone. They are excellent as a family dog.

They have a strong desire to be with their people and make them happy. Therefore, Bolonkas are well suited for beginners . But you definitely need enough exercise and activity. Then they don’t tend to bark either.
With a size of up to 26 cm and a weight of 3-4 kg, the Bolonka Zwetna is one of the small dog breeds.

Their fur is long and consists of large waves or curls. They can come in any color except white or piebald . However, white markings on paws, face and chest are permitted. Their coat color often lightens over time.
They usually have a dense undercoat.

A special feature of this breed is that the Bolonka sheds little or no hair at all. He does not go through a seasonal coat change. For this reason, the sweet companions are also suitable for some allergy sufferers.

Diet Bolonka Zwetna

The Bolonka Zwetna has no special dietary requirements. He does not tend to be overweight and is generally considered not very greedy . Its daily amount of food should be divided into 2-3 meals . This can prevent hypoglycaemia or gastric torsion.
If a Bolonka puppy moves in, it makes sense to continue feeding it the breeder’s food for a while.

Once the little one has settled in, you can offer him new food step by step. A high meat content with fruit and vegetables suitable for dogs is highly recommended. You can either offer high-quality wet food, a mix of wet and dry food, or food that you prepare yourself. BARF is also a popular diet for dogs.

Grooming

The care of the cute dogs is not too complicated. Their beautiful coat should be brushed every two to three days to prevent matting. It is best to get them used to regular grooming when they are puppies. You can also have your hair cut at the dog groomer. For example, the eyes are kept free.

Bolonkas only need to be bathed when they are very dirty. Smaller dirty spots can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth. During regular care, you should check their skin for injuries and parasites in order to discover them as early as possible. Ears, eyes, mouth and paws should also be checked at all times. The Bolonka’s ears are also hairy on the inside, which means that dirt can quickly collect there.

To counteract this, special ear cleaners for dogs are used.
Dental care can be supported by chew toys and chew sticks. However, it is also a good idea to brush your four-legged friend’s teeth every few days. Toothpaste for dogs is used for this . There are also a variety of toothbrushes and finger cots that can be purchased at pet supply stores or online.

History

The Bolonka Zwetna has its origins at the Russian Tsar’s court. His ancestors were beloved lap dogs of noble ladies . However, these dogs were white. In order to get a national, small, colorful puppy, other breeds were crossed over time.
Breeding of the new breed was actively started in the middle of the 20th century.

Among others, the Shih Tzu and the Lhasa Apso were used. The definition of a first breed standard of the Bolonka Zwetna took place in 1964. This standard was confirmed in 1966 by the cynological council of the Soviet Ministry of Agriculture.
In the 1980s, the sweet four-legged friend also gained popularity in Germany. He still has loyal fans to this day.

The breed was recognized by the VDH in 2011 . The FCI, on the other hand, has not yet accepted the Bolonka Zwetna as an independent breed.

Bolonka Zwetna Accessories

Depending on the length of the fur, different brushes are suitable for the Bolonka Zwetna. In any case, there should be a coarse-toothed comb for larger knots and a brush for small knots. A finer comb for the face and a curry comb can also be very helpful for grooming.
When a bath is needed, a good dog shampoo that is gentle on your four-legged friend’s skin is needed. If you want to cut the fur of your Bolonka yourself, you need special scissors for dogs.

If you trust yourself to be able to take care of your claws, you should get a good pair of claw scissors . Alternatively, you can have the claws trimmed at the dog grooming salon or at the vet.
Of course, like all dogs, this sweet dwarf also needs a cozy bed . As the ideal lap dog, he likes anything cuddly. Therefore he will gratefully accept blankets and pillows .
